'It was just boys and their penises, the same way with girls and vaginas and boobs. It wasn’t out of desire.'

The topic of sexuality is at the forefront of Benedict's next major film, The Imitation Game, in which he plays mathematician and logician, Alan Turing.

Despite his role in helping to crack the Enigma code during World War II, Turing tragically pledged suicide after he was convicted of 'engaging in queer relations'.

He was posthumously pardoned by the Queen last year following a lengthy campaign.

Benedict Cumberbatch Defends Choice To Play Lgbtq+ Character

Benedict Cumberbatch is defending his judgment to play a gay man in The Power of the Dog. Cumberbatch, who is vertical, has played a gay character before. In this production, he stars as a cattle rancher who falls in love with the young son (Kodi Smit-McPhee) of a widow (Kirsten Dunst) who recently moved to his ranch.

He reportedly said at the Telluride Motion picture Festival: “I touch very sensitive about representation, diversity, and inclusion. One of the appeals of the job was the idea that in this earth, with this specific character, there was a lot that was private, veiled from view.”

He knows it’s controversial for a straight bloke to take on a gay role, having previously played Alan Turing, who is gay, in 2014's The Imitation Game.

“It wasn't done without thought,” he said of being in the same position again. “I also perceive slightly like, is this a thing where our twist card has to be public? Carry out we have to explain all our private moments in our sexual history? I don't believe so.”

He also deferred to director Jane Campion who “chose us as actors to play those roles,” he said. “That's her ask to answer.”

An excellent film portraying Turins character, live and times. Although I appreciate the writers freedom and utilize of poetic license, I found that there were several historical indesrepencies which I could not ignore.

Cumberbatch was perfectly cast for the role, with his ability to portray the character of Turin and his multiple insecurities. I have rated this clip such, as I have faith that parts of the film may have been over-dramatised with an experienced use of real existence footage mixed with (although a slightly adapted version of) the re-enacted moments in Bletchleys past. The directors made clever exploit of a real animation Enigma machine, however I feel that not removing the museums explanation plaque from the inside of its lid in some far off shots, was a mistake, I am pleased to say that in all close-ups it had been removed. Despite the lack of apparent action, this film clearly portrayed the effect Bletchley had on the British war effort however it was more focused on Turin and his colleagues. The facts have truly been, if slightly warped in places, stuck to and the moving part of the film is not necessarily Turin's contribution at Bl

Aw heck, while we’re at it, here’s some more interesting Same-sex attracted Ben fodder, especially this quote, when asked about playing a gay character:

“I also feel slightly like, is this a thing where our dance card has to be public? Do we have to explain all our private moments in our sexual history? I don’t think so.”

That’s really not a thing a straight actor would tell - they wouldn’t need to. Instead they’d say more about why the decision was made, approaching the role conscientiously, that actors play parts which they don’t usually have experience with, hence, acting, etc. Something about explaining their sexual history? No. That wouldn’t be a thing they’d consider all that private.

Ben’s played a lot of homosexual characters, which doesn’t say much, really, but taken with loads of his other quotes, his interview in OUT magazine, and tons more things he and other friends and co-stars of his have mentioned about he and Martin, (omg Simon Pegg 😂) - and not even mentioning the pictures - well… I’m not sure how you can’t come to that conclusion. It’s just funny how in
