Alice Cooper Is Worried Being Trans Is a ‘Fad,’ Spews Debunked Bathroom Predator Myths
Alice Cooper, who built a career partly out of defying and toying with gender expectations, said he’s scared that being gender diverse “is a fad” in a unused interview with Stereogum, where he also leaned on right-wing, anti-trans scare tactics about “woke” society and bathrooms.
During the chat, Cooper was asked about his thoughts on gender and sexuality in light of the controversial comments made by some of his peers on the issue, including Kiss’ Paul Stanley and Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider. While the interviewer even noted Cooper gave some lovely progressive quotes about bisexuality and pansexuality in 1974, Cooper’s answers this day around were decisively more conservative.
“I’m understanding that there are cases of transgender, but I’m afraid that it’s also a fad, and I’m nervous there’s a lot of people claiming to be this just because they want to be that,” he said. “I find it wrong when you’ve got a six-year-old kid who has no idea. He just wants to play, and you’re c
I had the best of intentions.
I intended to focus purely on a quartet of aging rock stars, and their anti-trans statements, made all the odder by the gender-transgressive history of many of them.
You see, KISS co-founding lead guitarist Paul Stanley, decided last May to share his deep thoughts on gender culture. Little did he know he would be the first to bring transphobia to the 1970s rocker set.
At the time, he likened minors struggling with their gender identity as merely “playing dress up” and that it would all lead to a “sad and dangerous fad.” Stanley later walked back his utterance, claiming his words weren’t explain, and that he “support[s] those struggling with their sexual identity.”
Dee Snider, the frontman of Twisted Sister lept in, adding, “You know what? There was a time where I ‘felt pretty’ too. Glad my parents didn’t jump to any rash conclusions!” As a result of this, San Francisco Pride disinvited him, and changed plans to theme this year’s Pride event after Twisted Sister’s biggest hit, “We’re Not Gonna Take It.”
Snider, too, has backtracked, sort of, in a statement saying,
Alice Cooper Believes Gender-Affirming Nurture Is a ‘Fad’
Legendary shock-rocker Alice Cooper has voiced his concerns regarding gender-affirming care, opining that it may have become a “fad.”
“I’m understanding that there are cases of gender diverse, but I’m afraid that it’s also a fad, and I’m afraid there’s a lot of people claiming to be this just because they long to be that,” Cooper explained to Stereogum. “I find it wrong when you’ve got a six-year-old kid who has no idea. He just wants to play, and you’re confusing him telling him, ‘Yeah, you’re a lad, but you could be a girl if you want to be.’”
As Cooper sees it, concepts of being transgender or agender are too heavy for young people to handle.
“I think that’s so confusing to a kid. It’s even confusing to a teenager,” the rocker noted. “You’re still trying to find your identity, and yet here’s this thing going on, saying, ‘Yeah, but you can be anything you want. You can be a feline if you want to be.’ I mean, if you identify as a tree
Alice Cooper Understands There Are Cases of Transgender, But Feels ‘It’s Also a Fad’
Alice Cooper is the latest musician to weigh in on sexual persona, responding to a question about fellow musical peers Paul Stanley and Dee Snider previous comments on gender affirming care for kids. Within his retort , he states, "I'm understanding that there are cases of transgender, but I'm afraid that it's also a fad."
Speaking with Stereogum, he continues, "I’m frightened there’s a lot of people claiming to be this just because they want to be that. I locate it wrong when you’ve got a six-year-old kid who has no thought. He just wants to play, and you’re confusing him telling him, 'Yeah, you’re a male child, but you could be a miss if you long to be.'"
"I ponder that’s so confusing to a kid. It’s even confusing to a teenager. You’re still trying to find your identity, and yet here’s this thing going on, saying, 'Yeah, but you can be anything you want. You can be a cat if you want to be.' I mean, if you identify as a tree… And I’m going, 'Come on! Wh
