Homosexual and Same-Sex Stalking: An Study of Perception
Abstract
Stalking is one of the most difficult crimes to report and prosecute because of the highly subjective nature of stalking legislation. Being that the crime hinges on persons' meaning of events, it can be assumed that these interpretations are susceptible to bias. Disparate perceptions may form based upon characteristics of the perpetrator and victim, instead of the facts of the case. To date, there are no empirical studies regarding the influence of homosexual and same-sex targets and perpetrators on third party perceptions of the situation. This study describes the influence of sexuality, target gender, and relationship between the peeper and target on perceptions of stalking. Participants were obtained from Introductory Psychology classes at a Midwestern university. Perceptions of stalking such as danger and chance were measured using 12 stalking vignettes. Sexuality (heterosexual, gay, lesbian), relationship status (couple, acquaintance, stranger), and the gender of the target were manipulated to judge the effect on the participants' perceptions of stalking. just unified a brand modern place with a brand new pool and i’m super psyched, as having a pool in which to instruct might actually permit me improve on my typical 34 minute oly swim! however, twice in the past week i have had a guy track me from the pool, to the showers, to the locker room … at first i thought it was a coincidence or paranoia, and that he wasn’t looking at me when i’d pause at the wall after a set … then i though it must be a coincidence that he ended his shower at the same time i finished mine (nice new individual shower stalls with magnetically closing doors), but last night he left the door ajar, which i noticed as i was exiting, and he turned off the shower within seconds of my grabbing my towel off the hook.
my wife (!) thinks i’m imagining it, or that it’s not that massive of a deal, but i’m starting to get pissed about having my new enthusiasm about swimming tainted by my new peeper …
… any proposals on how to deal? i’m thinking of going with “dude, seriously wtf?”

My name is Philip, and I'm a long period STALKER fan. Love the series, but one thing missing was that the cast of Strelok et al. did not illustrate my demographic characteristics very well (nonbinary lesbian). Any news from GSC on this? Haven't seen anything on Google.
